Most of the month was spent on foreign travels with trips to southern California and the Greek Island of Lesbos (or Lesvos as it seems to be more often spelt these days). Both were very productive trips and full reports will hopefully be posted soon. (11/6/06 update - full California trip report now online)

In the 36 hours I had at home between the two trips I was at least able to catch up with the Spoonbill that had been spending a few days at Aberlady. It was showing very close to the footbridge in the early morning and, unlike most Spoonbills I have seen in Britain, it was quite active for most of the time I was watching it (most Spoonbills seem to spend about 95% of their time fast asleep with their head under their wing!).

Towards the end of the month I spent a couple of days photographing insects and flowers at Woodhall Dean, a nice quiet little stretch of oak woodland close to Dunbar.
