Bird & Wildlife Photography

June 2008
Part 1: Birds & Flowers
I've split this month's photos into two parts. A selection of some of the most interesting photos of birds and flowers are shown below. Part 2 contains the insect photos.
Juvenile Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) - Gwynedd, Wales
For the birds, June is a time for rearing young and numerous family parties of recently fledged birds can be observed clumsily trying to follow their parents while constantly begging to be fed.
Juvenile Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula) - Anglesey, Wales
This young Blackbird had a lucky escape. It was sitting, stunned in the middle of the road when I found it and had probably been hit a glancing blow by a passing car. It didn't have any obvious physical damage, so I moved it off the road and onto a stone wall, where it seemed quite happy to sit while it recovered for a minute or so, then flew strongly into some nearby woods.
Juvenile Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula) - Anglesey, Wales
Pied Flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca)
Linnet (Carduelis cannabina)
Gwynedd, Wales
Anglesey, Wales
Burnet Rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia) & underside of Male Fern (Dryopteris filix-mas)- Anglesey, Wales
Some people have commented to me that they like the way I arranged the rose and the fern on the above photo. There is, however, nothing contrived or artificial about this composition. As with all my photos, this was how I found it. Other than moving a distracting blade of grass temporarily out of the way, the composition is completely natural.
Sheepsbit (Jasione montana)
Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulnereria)
Anglesey, Wales
Anglesey, Wales
Bladder Campion (Silene vulgaris) - Anglesey, Wales
English Stonecrop (Sedum anglicum)
The remainder of this month's photos were of insects. The best of which can be seen on the following page...
