Ross's Goose
Chen rossii
Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire, Scotland - November 2002
Ross's Goose has not yet been accepted onto the British list as its occurrence as a genuine vagrant from a wild population is in some doubt. The individual that spent the winter at Caerlaverock in 2002 is possibly the best candidate of a truly wild bird to date. It arrived from Svalbard with the Barnacle Geese and was observed associating with them en route at a stop-over point in Norway.
