Lothian, Scotland - June 2005

| The Stock Dove has a bit of an up-and-down history in Britain. It was mainly confined to the south and east of England in the early 1800's. By the end of the century it had spread north into Scotland and colonised Ireland. Widespread herbicide use in the 1950's then caused a population crash with many local extinctions particularly in the east. Numbers have recovered since then but have not yet regained their pre-1950's level. |
