Blue Rock Thrush
Monticola solitarius
Male - Monfrague, Spain - May 2005
The male of this southern European and Asian species is unmistakable and can often be seen singing from prominent rocky perches in the spring.
Female - Monfrague, Spain - May 2005
Blue Rock Thrushes have quite a varied diet, including fruit, insects, worms, snails, small mammals, lizards, snakes and occassionally frogs and toads. This female had caught a young Ocellated Lizard (Timon lepidus) and was carrying it to her nest to feed her chicks.
