Conservation-related Links
The 'Save The Albatross' campaign, run by Birdlife International and the RSPB, is a cause close to my heart. All the money collected from the sale of Albatross prints through this website is donated to the campaign.
Birdlife International "A global Partnership of conservation organisations that strives to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity, working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources."
RSPB Britain's largest bird conservation organisation.
British Trust for Ornithology An impartial, independent organisation committed to providing scientific evidence and advice on various ornithologically-related issues.
Arkive A 'virtual' conservation effort to attempt to collate and maintain a high-quality photographic and video database of every species of plant and animal currently threatened with extinction. A massive undertaking considering the IUCN's Red List encompasses around 15000 species!
Mammal Society Committed to the study and conservation of British mammals.
Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Involved in the global conservation of wildfowl and wetland habitats.
Travel Links
Gigrin Farm The best place to see & photograph Red Kites in Britain. Often over 400 birds visit daily.
Albatross Encounters New Zealand. The most accessible way of seeing a variety of Albatross species is taking pelagic boat trips from Kaikoura. Each trip is only about 2½hours. To have the best chance at seeing the full range of species, I'd recommend taking at least 2 trips (you get a NZ$10 discount (Nov. 2005) on every trip after your first one).
Pterodroma Pelagics New Zealand. Pelagic cruises in the Hauraki Gulf, the far north, and around Stewart Island. Also, a page with the most current news on the New Zealand Storm-petrel.
Whale Watch Kaikoura New Zealand whale-watching trips. Sperm Whales are almost guaranteed and over 60% of the world's whale species have been recorded from the trips in the past. Quite expensive, but well worth it.
Dolphin Watch Ecotours New Zealand. Boat trip along the Queen Charlotte Sound (your only realistic chance of seeing King Shags anywhere in the world).
Tiritiri Matangi Accommodation New Zealand. Information on the bunkhouse accommodation on Tiritiri Matangi Island. It is essential to book several months in advance!
Trounson Park Kiwi walk New Zealand. Information on the nocturnal walks in Trounson Forest to see the North Island Brown Kiwi. A bargain at only NZ$15 (Nov. 2005). Walks last around 3 hours.
Backwoods Camp Goa, India.
Emil Enchev Organises wildlife photography tours in Bulgaria. Will tailor the itinerary to suit your individual goals. Highly recommended.
Photographic Equipment Links - below is a selection of companies I have always had good service from.
Really Right Stuff Small Californian company that specializes in making high quality flash brackets, ballheads, focusing rails, lens & camera body plates, and several other specialist accessories.
Picstop Reliable supplier of very cheap CF & SD cards.
Park Cameras Large range of photographic equipment at reasonable prices.
A J Purdy Large range of photographic equipment at reasonable prices.
Warehouse Express Extensive range of photographic equipment and accessories at reasonable prices.
Visible Dust Canadian manufacturer of sensor cleaning equipment. (many of their products are now available in the UK through Warehouseexpress.com). I find their 'Arctic Butterfly' particularly useful when travelling, since it requires no liquids and is very effective at removing dust from the camera sensor even in dusty environments such as deserts.
