American Buff-bellied Pipit (Anthus rubescens rubescens)

After visiting some friends in Liverpool yesterday, I decided to stop off at Burton Marsh on the way home for a look at the American Buff-bellied Pipit that has been hanging around on my former local patch for the last couple of months.

Thankfully it didn't take me too long to locate it among the large flock of Meadow Pipits and within 10 minutes of arriving I was able to get some good shots as it slowly worked its way closer while feeding on insects in the flood debris.

Buff-bellied Pipits are rare vagrants to Britain and this one was probably blown over here by one of the many storm systems that have hit our shores this winter.
