Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris)
The numerous windfall apples attracted a few Scandanavian visitors to my garden in January. The Fieldfares were the undisputed bosses, chasing away the resident Blackbirds anytime they tried to come near the apples.

The much smaller Redwings usually only visited when the Fieldfares were not around, but they occasionally sneaked into a quiet, shady corner without the Fieldfares noticing.

Both Redwing and Fieldfare are very common breeding birds in the northern forests of Fennoscandia and eastern Siberia, and also breed in small numbers in Scotland. In the winter they are common throughout the UK.

After a couple of weeks of having a garden full of thrushes, the apples had all been eaten and the Fieldfares and Redwings moved on, leaving the Blackbirds in charge once more.
Eurasian Blackbird (Turdus merula)
Unfortunately, Goldfinches are not a regular visitor to the garden feeders. The bird below is the only one I've see so far, and it only stayed around for about 10 seconds!
