Lesvos: 11th-18th May 2006
Achladeri

The abandoned military post near Achladeri is a well known site for breeding Kruper's Nuthatch. By mid-May the young have fledged and it can take a bit of effort to find a roving family party.

Common birds such as House Sparrows were also found in the pine woods. This pair were trying their best to evict a pair of Middle Spotted Woodpeckers from their nest hole.
House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)
Persian Squirrels are quite common on Lesvos. They are quite similar to the grey-backed form of Red Squirrel but lack the ear tufts.
