Centre-barred Sallow

Atethmia centrago

Attenborough, Nottinghamshire, England - September 2012

The distinctive Centre-barred Sallow occurs throughout most of the British Isles, mostly in broad-leaved woodlands, but also in other habitats, such as hedgerows and gardens, wherever the larval foodplant of Ash trees occurs.

Attenborough, Nottinghamshire, England - August 2012

Early instar larvae feed inside of Ash buds. Once they grow too large, they feed nocturnally on the flowers of the Ash tree and hide during the day in a crevice or at the base of the tree.
