The Gothic occurs throughout most of the British Isles, but is quite locally distributed and generally found in low densities. It inhabits a variety of habitats, including gardens, parkland, riverbanks, damp woodlands and wet meadows where its larvae feed on a wide range of woody and herbaceous plants.
