Marsh Deer

Blastocerus dichotomus

Pantanal, Brazil - August 2000

The Marsh Deer is the largest deer found in South America, reaching up to 2m in length. They have disappeared from most of their former range and even in their stronghold in the Pantanal they are declining due to the transmission of a cattle disease that causes spontaneous abortion.
