Snapping Turtle

Chelydra serpentina

Maryland, USA - June 2000

Snapping Turtles are the largest freshwater turtles in the north-eastern United States, with adults measuring 35cm and weighing around 10-15kg on average. To go with their large size they have a mean disposition and it is not a good idea to get too close to them since they can extend their neck a considerable distance, are deceptively quick, and can deliver a very powerful bite.
