Spotted Turtle

Clemmys guttata

Virginia, USA - March 2001

Unlike the more common Painted Turtles which leap into the water when disturbed, Spotted Turtles take life at a more leisurely pace and sedately lower themselves into the water. They are most easily observed in spring when they frequently bask on exposed perches.
